JIDO’s February Programme

February 16, 2012

As part of JIDO’s communication and planning programme, the interim management Committee have been having a series of presentation and discussion with community members to engage their opinion on keys issues relating to the History of JIDO Catholic Community UK, Martyrdom of our Blessed  JIDO, the Constitution and registration of membership in preparation for our Annual General Meeting that will take place in Spring 2012.

On  Sunday the 12th 2012, comminuty members had  discussions and reflection based on the above themes and the session was very successful.

The publicity and Information officer chaired the meeting and we were honored to have our Patron, Sister Monica to facilitate the meeting. She inspired the audience to participate by posing four questions that  helped members to interact and engage with one another.  The key questions were:

1. What do we know about the Martyrs?

Participants came with fantastic answers such as:

  • The Blessed Martyrs were very dedicated and spiritually minded young men.
  • They scarified their life for us at a time when they faced opposition from the local population.

2. What is a Constitution and why do we value it?

  • Answers given varied for example, one community members stated that the Constitution was a highway code.
  • Others said that the document was the bone of our community
  • A guiding framework that  gives us objectives
  • It helps the committee to manages resources
  • The Constitution is indeed our foundation, gives us objectives, direction and we use it as a reference point.

3. What are the roles and responsibilities of the Committee?

  • The roles of our Committee are to build our community
  • Take leadership, represent the community
  • To listen, organize and  gather people together,
  • Focus on uniting the community members and above all commitment to one another and to members.

4. What have the Committee members been  doing to date?

  • Collecting, shifting and distributing information.
  • Feeding members and looking after children etc.

The session ended by members reflecting on the purpose of  JIDO community and all agreed that we are a faith based body with the ultimate aim of achieving  the beautification of the two Blessed Martyrs. Our Patron urged members to pray for this important cause and to continue to participate in JIDO community events.

She ended the meeting by encouraging members who have not yet registered do so before the end of March in time for the Annual General Meeting.
