As it has been communicated at mass since October 2011, membership registration is now open and community members are encouraged to fill in the form below and send it to the Secretary by the end of March 2012

About membership of JIDO

Thank you for considering to register as a member of JIDO. Membership is open to anyone who supports the aims and objectives of JIDO (please see the last page of this form). Once you membership is accepted by the management committee you will be issued with a Membership Certificate. This membership will enable you to contribute to decisions regarding the management, policies and general direction of JIDO, including its Annual General MeetingHowever, those individuals who wish not to register for membership are welcome to participate in prayers and general activities of JIDO

Aims and objectives of Blessed Jildo Irwa and Blessed Daudi Okelo Catholic Community UK

(JIDO Catholic Community UK)

       I.            To develop the faith of Catholics originating from the Archdiocese of Gulu, Northern Uganda both spiritually and intellectually, and to provide opportunities for them to put it into practice in the service of the wider community in the UK.

II.            To organise and regularly celebrate Mass in the Luo language and to undertake any other activities permissible by the Catholic Church in order to strengthen the faith of members of the Community.

III.            To fulfil a pastoral role amongst people from Northern Uganda resident in theUK, enabling and encouraging the Catholics among them to receive the Sacraments.

IV.            To work with the Diocese of Westminster to establish, and thereafter support a Chaplaincy for Ugandans originating from the Archdiocese of Gulu who are resident in theUK.

V.            To support and as may be required cater for the welfare of visiting Religious and Clergy from Gulu Archdiocese when they come to theUK.

VI.            To support Catholic charitable causes.

Statement of intent:

In working towards the above objectives JIDO will undertake the following:

  • Adopt  Blessed Jildo Irwa and Blessed Daudi Okelo  as its guardians and ask them to intercede for its members by encouraging the regular reciting of  the prayer of dedication to the twoNorthern Ugandamartyrs at all its meetings and events.
  • Promote and pray for  the cause for the canonisation of Blessed Jildo Irwa and Blessed Daudi Okelo
  • Work in conjunction with other Christian organisations, including the Diocese of Westminster to further its aims and objectives.
